It's time you start. If you've never experienced Second Life, I suggest you read through this article for a very small heads up on what you're about to embark upon. Second life is, as the Second LIfe website says, a 3 D virtual world created entirely by it's residents. It was first introduced to the public in 2003, but in my opinion has recently began to take off in popularity like never before. The way I first found out about the game was from my daughter-in-law. I checked out the website but it looked like more then I wanted to get into at that time. Then one night, I was watching one of my favorite shows on T.V. , CSI. This was an episode about a killer that was part of Second Life's virtual reality and met people via the game. Even during CSI, as the commercials came on, I went to the computer signing up. I was hooked. Now, about the game. There are so many places to visit, view, browse. From art, to shopping, to night clubs, to anything sex related, and I mean anything. The only limits I've found are the limits of your own mind. When you first sign up be sure to pick a name for yourself that you'll want to keep. As of the writing of this article, you cannot change the name chosen for yourself. Next you'll go through a learning process of how to maneuver your character, how to change your appearance, and to read signs. Appearance, you can change EVERY aspect about your character. Eyes, hair, the length of your arms, legs, foot size (which is important for the guys), breast size for the women and much more. After you're basic appearance is set up (and believe me, you'll change it more as you go) you'll go out into an orientation area where you'll learn to walk, fly (yes you can fly), turn around, look up and down. You'll also want to make sure and read the signage. They give you hints about places, things, things you can do. Some are merely for information. continued below... © Suckitupprincess |

I wasn't able to get a snapshot of orientation island. Once you leave orientation island, you cannot return there again. There is a public orientation island however it doesn't compare to the initial orientation island you'll be on upon starting your account. The above image is at sunset and is of help island (public). Help island is where you get more help on your way out into the public world. The original help island when you start your first time is another non-returnable island. It does appear the same as the first help island you visit upon your first time in the game so if you leave help island (the non-returnable one) too prematurely you will be able to return to a duplicate (public) help island. Now, onward to the real world. Once you exited help island you're still not really on you're own. Many of the residents in this game will help you but as with any game, some won't. One of the big concerns in Second Life is money. There are various ways you can make money. Just think of real life. If you're male or female, there are escort services where you can play the role as it would be played. You can also start up your own business, but that takes money to make money naturally. One way which I've seen in quite a few games is you can buy money online, or via the Second Life website. It's almost like a stock exchange because you can also sell money. The game dollar raises and lowers in value during different times of the day. You can also camp for money. That means spending time on certain islands of your choosing to sit, dance or whatever the camping option would be on that island. One place I'd suggest to go for dancing is GoldBar. Owned, operated and designed by Thrilla Wilber. Once you enter, be sure to turn on your sound to the Rave happening on GoldBar radio at the time. I frequent that nightclub and the people and Thrilla are very helpful. You'll naturally have the odd person come in who is quite rude, but there's always an ignore option. You may want to learn how to operate the ignore before heading out from help island. This will keep you from getting stressed when you come across someone that bothers you. continued next column... © SuckItUpPrincess SuckItUp Centerfold

Don't like anything about this site - While you're at GoldBar, be sure to say hello to Red. She's one of the dancers at GoldBar and she's both sociable and helpful to everyone. As I mentioned, she's a dancer there and yes, you can get jobs in this game at various places. There's even a job finder service. For new SL'ers, you won't have much money. My suggestion is to frequent the free spots. There are quite a few, one of which is GamersBrand where you'll find tons of free items. There are a few things that will cost money, but for the most part they're free. Another such place which has some good free items is Odd's & Ends Mall. If it's freebies you're looking for, go directly to the 3rd floor. The lower floors are priced items. One thing I should point at at this time is when you buy something in SL, in general it will be packed (boxed). So what happens? If you try to wear it, you'll be wearing a big box, or a big poster on your body. It WILL be very noticeable. What you have to do is find the item you purchased in your inventory, drag it to the ground (you'll have to find a place that allows items on the ground). Then you'll right click on the item which is on the ground, and click Open. This will show you the contents of the boxed item. You can simply copy the contents to your inventory, or copy and wear. Either way is up to you. I'd suggest having a very good sorting technique before you accumulate very many things or the item list will go crazy and it'll be difficult to find anything that you have. The method I use is to have complete outfit folders under the cloth's section. Everything that I want to wear with a particular outfit will be under the folder with that outfit. Like earrings, bellyring, arm bands, hair style, necklaces or whatever. As for your boxed items, most of them even after unboxing them will still be in your 'Objects' folder. Maybe keep those separated as well. Just create folders under Objects and call them cloths, jewelry, dances, poses, glasses or how ever it works for you that will help you know what you have and where it is. If you're an art lover, there are some art museums you can visit. I'd suggest stopping by Ricci Rosca's Art Museum. This museum was well thought out, and is well separated to the respective artist displaying artworks by that artist. continued next column... © SuckItUpPrincess |
Many many other artists are in their own sections in this museum. Be sure to visit! In many area's, you'll find theme based places. One such theme based place I'll mention is the Star Trek area. I visited the Star Trek museum and was I ever in awe! I was AMAZED at the work and time it must have taken to set this place up. I'm not kidding you, there was so much in this museum, from information to visuals to a cinema where you can watch a remake of the starship Enterprise taking on the battle cruiser captained by Darth Vader of Star Wars. The work involved was massive and my hat goes off to all that were involved in the making of this island. Being in total awe, I was taking lots of snapshots of various area's which I'll share with you. Simply click on the image you wish to see. The Star Trek Museum is LOADED with information about every aspect of the Star Trek series. Just click on a panel, or a picture of a captain, or in the starship bay you can also click on a few ships to cloak or decloak it as you'd expect a Klingon Bird of Prey to do. There are shuttles that you can click on to be able to either go from the starship bay to dock with a starship, or another shuttle will take you on a tour of the island. Be sure though that if you do visit, plan on spending a lot of time with the extensive facts and various things to click on. One more place I'd like to mention is the sex. Yes you can have sex in this game. There are what's called pose balls, and/or various menu driven scripts that will make your character do every position you can think of to have sex. This also includes Male with Male, and Female with Female not forgetting the most fun and erotic 3-somes. I'll only cover XXX Island, you can explore from there to find the other places to go. You can find dolls you can do it with both for the lady's and the gent's. There is pole dancing to make money, and various shops to find that kinky outfit. Speaking of kinky, you may also want to visit XXX Mall (not on the same XXX Island). This is another place. In closing, I also want to say you'll need a speedy system to fully enjoy Second Life. I wouldn't suggest anything lower then a 6000 series nVidia card, and no less then a 2 gHz CPU with at least a gig of RAM although the actual system requirements are a bit less. You'll need a speedy internet connection as well or expect to be lagged and choppy. Next thing to have in abundance is patience. ©
SuckItUpPrincess To cover all aspects and options of the game to help you along would take about 10 more websites like this so.... |
I'm going to see if this site will support itself and ask for donations. What will a donation get you? That's easy. It'll give me more time to update this site for one. Another thing is it will show me that you support the activities of this site. If there are enough donations, I'll even explore a new look, new options and activities to add. Lets see where it goes.
